Getting Through That Two-Week Wait
Waiting can be hell – especially when your every hope and dream hinges on
whether or not you’ve managed to get pregnant. Since you cannot accurately
predict a pregnancy until at least 2 weeks after conception, most couples become a
basket case during this short waiting period. So, how can you get through it without
upsetting your internal balance and driving yourself (and each other) nuts?
Here are a few suggestions:
- Get busy with a new project. Nothing takes your mind off of any issue –
including whether or not you’re pregnant – like diving headlong into a new
project.
- Avoid thinking (and talking) about babies during this time of the month. I
know that’s hard, but try. Constantly letting your mind wander back to babies
and pregnancies will only make the wait seem longer.
- Have some fun. Go on vacation. Visit family and friends. Go to the theater.
Choose an activity to enjoy that you know you won’t be able to do for a while
once you do indeed conceive a child.
- Have sex just because you want to. For many couples trying to conceive, sex
becomes more of a chore than an enjoyment. Have fun again! Enjoy each other. Consider this: Once you become parents, you’ll have a lot less time and
energy for sex so you’d better have some fun now.
