rachel SKREV:
Dear Parents,
My name is Rachel. I currently live in California but we are about torelocate to Denmark in a few months.
I have 3 children: Maya - age 12, Dan - age 8 and Gail - age 4.
My husband and I are very busy trying to figure out ways to help our children adjust to the new reality...
I hope you guys can help me with some suggestions. I mostly interested infinding them after school activities (private courses maybe), But I cannot find info about it...
It is hard for me to focus on specific questions as I do not yet understand how the educational system and the extra-curricular activities work in and outside of schools (public). I'd appreciate any information you can offer!!!
see you around
Rachel
Dear Rachel,
I am used to helping expats relocating to the Greater Copenhagen area with such practicalities - so where are you moving to...which school are the two oldes supposed to attend, what are their interests etc.
Most 12 years old attend extra curricular activities in sports clubs (private - but supported by local authorities and volunteers) or through what we call Ungdomsskole (youth school) - which may be music classes, arts and a lot more - depending on the municipality you live in.
8 years old may attend SFO after school - this is often placed in the school but has little to do with school and more with extra curricular stuff too
A four year old should probably attend kindergarten and thus find challenges and learn to speak Danish very fast.
So you'll also need to find something for yourself to do - if not working as most Danish women are working too
Depending on the company your husband is relocating for and their individual relocation officer you should also be able to get help there - otherwise write again - there's lots of us in here from all over the country.
You may also write to my private - anonymous email - charl8nlund@hotmail.com
Best regards,
Polyp
